Christmas presents with a provenance can be found at Hen and Hammock, a company that looks closely at its products and their suppliers. They believe that all products should be made to an ecologically conscious design, but should also be attractive. They give 10% of their pre-tax profit to non-profit organisations and in the last year have contributed £450 to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Hen and Hammock suppliers are as far-flung as South America, Thailand and South Africa, as well as numbering plenty of home-grown ones. There are plenty of ideas for presents here and the company ethos helps reduce the feeling of mercenary consumerism which can accompany the gift-buying season.
They stock an interesting range which includes gardening equipment, such as raised beds with inbuilt slug defence (copper tape), English oak plant labels, as well as other garden-related items, such as trugs, hammocks and clothing.
