Good point - I agree entirely, but can't think of a way of preventing the vote herding either, unless the RHS forced potential voters to look at all the gardens online before they voted in the hope of inspiring a bit more consideration! That's not going to happen though is it?

We have a version of this problem with votes for 'Best Gardens' (not show gardens, Veddw type gardens.)

The large gardens like the Welsh Botanic or the National Trust & RHS gardens keep huge data bases of visitors - which we could/would never dream of doing - and email them asking for votes. Which, surprise, they get.

It's bad enough being in Wales and getting left out of so many 'English' publications and books, without this kind of irritation which we are helpless to contend.

Basically, it seems to me that just about any vote that is conducted online isn't worth the click used to send it. Shame. It's just one more thing to be cynical about.

VP

Interesting and very good points, but I wonder how many people actually bother to click through and vote. In my experience it will be a very small percentage. It is possible to distinguish the source of votes and it would be interesting to see if the click through rate biased results.

Helen

That's an interesting point, VP. I assumed that when it was made so easy that quite a few people would click through. But perhaps it doesn't make quite so much difference as I think.
