Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day: winter aconite

After reading that the winter aconite was already blooming as far north as Berwickshire at the beginning of January, I was beginning to fear that mine had succumbed to the winter wet. But no, at last they've appeared. Thank goodness, Spring is really on its way.

Well, what else can you expect in January?  Most of my cyclamen are pink with fuller petals, but this is a bit different.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day : does this count?

Perhaps joining in the Garden Bloggers Bloom Day in autumn wasn't my brightest decision. I've been round the garden and there is nothing - not a thing - that has the merest hint of a bloom. Heavy frost followed by heavy rain has rendered just about everything black and sodden.  So, is this cheating? Here's something from a little earlier this month, when the frost iced everything with a sparkle and shapes came into their own.

Never fails to amaze me that roses bloom at times other than summer, but getting out to photograph what's there for Garden Bloggers' Blooms Day is a great way to get to know the garden at a time of year when we're usually just passing through.

Meanwhile the hebe just won't give up, which is good for the odd bumble bee taking advantage of the warm sunshine yesterday.
